Not enough could be said about the influence, and the contribution of these two men, on the sport of Drag racing, and the allure and mystic of the muscle car era! In fact the Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction owes a dept of graditude to these men, as they are probably two of the biggest reasons a Hemi Cuda would fetch over two million dollars on auction...

I won't go into the history of these two cars here, I'm sure many of you early Prostock fans know more about these cars then I do, as I am primarly interested in the artist qualities of the cars...

1971 certainly was a pinnacle time for factory involvement in the sport of Drag Racing..."Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday!" was very much the reality of the day...You could watch Sox racing Landy on Sunday, then head down to the dealership and purchase the street legal version of these cars on Monday...

Seen here at Great Lakes Dragway in Wisconsin,,, we see Ronnie Sox putting a holeshot on arch rival Dick Landy...Ronnie won so many races that year, that NHRA felt they needed to slap the Mopars a large weight gain for the following season...In this image, we can see how the cars are set up very different from each other...The Cuda sat up high, and transfered a lot of weight to the rear wheels: Landy's Challenger took a different approach, with it's very nose-down additude, even when the car launched and hiked the front wheels, the car still maintained its down-angle...It also seems like Landy,s car had taller and wider Goodyear slicks...(If there is anyone in ebay-land that may know the story about these tires, please let me know. )

This is a beautiful image highlighted by an almost "Hawaiian-sunset" looking skyline...and is a "Must-Have" for any early Pro Stock or muscle car fan...Sox and Landy certainly are the "Original Kings" of Pro Stock....
