DATELINE: 7/21/07 The Latest Art!

It’s been nice to get back into the painting mode. No matter how hard I try, I still only spend about 20% of my time painting, and the other 80% is pure selling…or in my case, doing all the internet stuff…

One of my latest paintings, “Plumber at Pomona” is making quite a splash in Bill’s Rieck’s hometown of Lompoc California. I’ve had several nice chats with Bill’s Widow, and there are some family friends in town there building a replica of the 65 “Quarterbender” Plymouth. It was also nice to see that Bill’s original plumbing business is still going strong, even though Bill passed away in 1992. This was one of my favorite paintings to do, since Bill’s 66 Dart was one of my favorite cars most of my life, also, I have a soft spot for the track at Pomona. The image I used was from my Bob Wagner Collection, the only difference was, I was able to cleanup the image significantly.

Also in the last couple of months I managed to do piece on Doug Thorley’s awesome 65 Nova F/Xer, Randy Wall’s, 65 “Super Nova, and the “ Beach City Chevrolet” Vette. Along with the “Quarterbender” painting, I also did Al Vander Woude’s 67 “Flying Dutchman” Dart,,,and Dick Loehr’s super stretched “Stampede” 66 Mustang…to drag myself out of the 60’s, I allowed myself one indulgence and did a piece from the 1983 “World Finals” featuring John Lombardo racing Denny Savage…As of this writing, I am finishing a painting of Bobby Wood driving his 67 Malibu, this one is stretched out to the max, and I believe it’s epitome of the of an F/X car was all about….next on the block is “The Goose cooks at Riverside!” featuring Tom McEwen’s 1966 win at the Hot Rod Magazine race at Riverside raceway…

The best part of this for me is when I do one of these painting its like going back in time. I go right to the place I’m painting and put myself there. It is wonderful to get to recreate images of these awesome cars; they are all ”Works-of-Art” on their own.
