Art and the Internet:

I would have never guessed, that being an Artist would mean I would spend most of my time behind a computer, on the Internet, trying to sell my artwork…I have to say, some things (commerce-wise) seemed much simpler in the pre-website days. Don’t get me wrong! The Internet is an awesome thing! But what an all-consuming beast it has become!

When I think about it? I didn’t become an artist so I could design websites, or read HTML, or build “hyper-links”, or write “keyword-rich,” search engine phrases, or my favorite, develop highly valuable ” Meta-tags.” Nowadays you have to make sure, that Yahoos’ spiders are crawling through your sitemap, and that your e-commerce server has the proper “Cert-key-pim.” I have no idea what that is? But if I don’t have the right one, nothing works, and the world comes to a halt.

I would much rather spend my time doing what I love, which is painting, but I only get to do that about 20% of time…If I paint for 2 months, then I end up spending the next 8 months trying to sell what I painted. I’m not really complaining, not really…I’m very lucky that I get to do what I do, and I’ve learned that everything in life, has its up side, and it’s down side. When it’s a ruff time for me, I just try and think of want I call, the “Bigger Picture.” And what I mean by the “Bigger picture?” I’ll leave that up to your insight.

I want to Thank Randy Fish, (the Editor of Drag racer magazine) for running my picture in the January issue, there at the Collector’s Show at the Winternationals. That’s me standing there “hocking my wares.” It’s a fitting picture for my life right now, that’s pretty much the way it is; Just me and my artwork…I know I live like a monk sometimes, but then again how many monks get to paint Funny Cars?

Also, a big Thumbs-up to John Ewald, for letting sit in his car as they “Cackled” it at the “Nitro Shootout” in Fontana this last weekend…That was big thrill!

Please keep emailing me with your suggestions about cars you would like to see…The next batch of painting are going to be the “Wood Brothers” 67 Chevy, Big John Mazmanian’s 69 Cuda, Dickie Harrell, the “King Kong” Anglia, McEwen at Riverside, the “Little Red Wagon” vs. the “Chuckwagon,” and a whole list of others. I just recently acquired some very historic reference photos, and there are some great subjects there. One of my favorites is “Pure Hell” at Fontana, so that will be a subject for my easel in short time.

Thank you for your Support, and please email any suggestions you may have…. Thank You...DCP davidcarlpeters@aol.com
