"THUNDER ON THE FARM!"
Limited-Edition Print of 350 (13x19) signed and numbered by the Artist.
The year is 1965, July to be exact, at the NHRA Division 1 Championships At "York" US 30 Drag-O-Way in Pennsylvania. We see here, the "Ramchargers" dragster driven by Don Westerdale, as he sets a new National ET. Record of 7.47 seconds. This is the first, in a long line of dragsters for the Factory backed "Ramchargers" team. So Popular was this team, that MPC released model kit of this car in 1966. This was also the first car to run the "New" 426 Hemi engine.
"I was taken with this scene, as it depicts the pastoral settings of some of our early drag strips. York US 30 Drag-O-WAY, was one the more famous strips in the northeast, with it's setting in the farmlands of Pennsylvania.
Those drag fans in their 30s now, would not remember a time, when drag strips didn't have K-Wall running the length of the track. Some of the older tracks might still have been running guard rails, but they would never have believed that tracks like this, would have "No" guard rails at all. As you can see, campers and spectators alike, just lined-up along the grassy runoff areas running the length of the track. It must have been quite the juxtaposition to see these "Highly Exotic" race cars, screaming, smoking, and tearing through the farmlands with a thunderous roar...
This image just may become the cover-art for my book when all is said and done...I hope you enjoy my version of "Thunder on the farm!"" DCP
